I've found this not only interesting, but also incredibly helpful. Several years ago I hear Bill Easum say an effective spiritual leader serves in a role as midwife. It's a rich source for all things pregnancy. We were both given copies of Spiritual Midwifery and it inspired us, so we looked around for a film about Ina May and the Farm Midwives and we couldn't find it. I read and re-read Gaskin's books (particularly Spiritual Midwifery) while I was pregnant. The Farm was also where Ina May wrote her most famous book, Spiritual Midwifery. These analogies—while only incomplete comparisons—are helpful because they take something foreign and make it familiar. In a cottage-industry effort, it was printed communally there, becoming an underground classic passed around from woman to woman. She makes a comment that reading.
